letting the kids choose

This past Friday, we had our first 5th-6th grader night. Here at Heartland, our youth ministry begins in the 7th grade. Our kids ministry goes until the 6th grade, but once they hit 5th grade, they start to get antsy, and our programming tends to lean more towards the 3rd & 4th graders...anyway....so Friday we started the transition ministry and doing something special for that age group.

Part of the night was spent on vision and direction. But a part of it was spent on establishing an identity, namely a name. Let me just say, I didn't anticipate such a wide aray of names that have nothing to do with anything. We had such names as "The Cheeseburger dinners", "Israel's milk & honey" (don't ask), "God's Peeps", "Son Devils", "Jesus 101", "One way to Heaven", and my favorite "the poop farts"....we finally settled on what is now our name "Route 56". They loved it, and I can live with it, not that it really matters what I think.

In other news, in about 4 weeks, we're starting our mid-week. What began as a mid-week program for elementary kids, turned into a night to minister to the whole family. We'll have nursery, pre-school, elementary, (teens in the future), and parenting classes. The whole team here is getting in on it.

Reminds me of Watermark. A team united. Miss you guys.

So that's me. How about you....let me know what's going on in your lives. I suck at keeping in touch...so this is me reaching back...drop me an email, or call, my number is the same as before...

my friend,

was thinking of you and judy just today. plotting how i would get myself a flight that way for a visit in the next year or so. thanks for your excitement with me over the book....you happened to be referenced and quoted, and i'm sure our college talks about God influenced many beliefs formed into words. did i tell you i'm the director of young adults ministries at my church now? still volunteer, but it's a big job. thank goodness God ministers for/through us, eh? otherwise I'd never be in this business ;) praying for you and your lady, Jay.

I'M thinking poop farts could be pretty beneficial during flu season. Miss you man..still waiting for that one on one we never had...you get a hot tub yet? I heard one of those tumbleweeds killed a guy in Kansas last week...he was changing his tire and never saw it coming...guess it hit him right in the jugular.
